Metal Gear Solid
Have you ever wondered, "Do all mature rated videogames teach violence?" Well the game "Metal Gear Solid" is just the opposite, even though its rated "Mature." The plot is fantastic. The philosophy in this game is factual. The features are inspiring. Here is a summary of the game. The Nuclear weapons disposal facility on Shadow Moses Island in Alaska gets attacked and captured by Next Generation Special Forces who are reserve members of Fox-Hound led by members of Fox-Hound which is a special forces unit formed to deal with local insurgencies, regional conflicts and counter-terrorism. They demand the hand over of the remains of Big Boss, a mercenary and Commander of Fox-Hound. His plans were ruined by the main character known as Solid Snake or Snake for short, when trying to form a nation. The person playing the game plays as Solid Snake. His remains were preserved by the military as a genetic sample of the "Greatest soldier who ever lived." They threaten to launch a nuclear weapon if the demand is not met within twenty-four hours. Snake is a former member of Fox-Hound and an expert at infiltration. Snake has two main objectives. Snakes first main objective is to rescue Arms Tech President "Kenneth Baker" and DARPA Chief "Donald Anderson." Theyre both being held as hostages. Snakes second main objective is to find out if the terrorist really do have the ability to launch a nuclear weapon and stop them if they do. This is a one man infiltration mission. There are six members of Fox-Hound. They are Decoy Octopus, Psycho Mantis, Sniper Wolf, Vulcan Raven, Revolver Ocelot, and the one in command is Liquid Snake or Liquid for short. Liquid Snake is considered to be Solid Snakes brother. Hal Emmerich a.k.a Otacon helped build Metal Gear. Metal Gear is a walking tank that shoots nuclear warheads. It was invented because the missle can not be seen on radar like others can be. If anyone knows how to stop Metal Gear, Otacon does. In order to launch the nuke the terrorist must have Kenneth Bakers and Donald Andersons passwords. The philosophy in this game is factual even though it has violence in it. Here are some examples. "War is ugly. There is nothing glamorous about it." This quote was said during the game by Meryl. "Even the greatest machines have their flaws," was said by Solid Snake. The colonel lies a lot to Solid Snake like some really do. It is true that the government does not always tell the truth about wars. Instead they make up cover stories. One time when Solid Snake and Liquid Snake were talking during the game, Liquid told Snake that what he thought was true about the Gulf War, was just a cover story. There are many features in Metal Gear Solid. After beating the game Solid Snake receives a bandana and/or stealth camouflage. The bandana gives Snake unlimited ammo. The stealth camouflage makes Snake invisible. Instead of playing the regular game mode, the VR, meaning virtual reality, Missions can also be played. The VR Missions are practice levels to get prepared for the real game mode, except Snake can not be seen at all or hell lose right away. In the regular game mode there is a camera that actually allows Snake to take pictures. There are all kinds of different items that help Solid Snake through out the game. There is a socom pistol, a rifle, a sniper rifle, a remote controlled missle, a stinger missle, a chaff grenade used to disable surveilance cameras and some times other electronics, a stun grenade used to stun the enemies, C4 used to blow up walls, and regular grenades; also key cards are used to open doors, a codec used to contact people, a gas mask, a PAL card, which is a special card used to override the system or to deactivate the detonation code of the nuclear weapon, cardboard boxes used to hide in from an enemy, ration used to increase Snakes health, and a mine detector. This game is rated mature and does not teach violence. The plot, philosophy, and features are fantastically inspiring. This year it was U.K.s top selling game. |
